DNI Names Darcy Tomlin VP, Programming & Ops

(London, UK) – Darcy Tomlin has been named vice president of Discovery Networks International Programming and Operations, it was announced today by Rosemary Newell, senior vice president of International Programming and Operations, to whom she will report. In her new role within Discovery’s International Content Group, she will be a key leader in managing the thousands of hours of shared content from the US portfolio of networks, as well as holding key relationships with programming teams in the US and its more than 220 countries and territories. Tomlin will be based in Discovery’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Tomlin will manage the content partnership between Discovery Networks International and the US brand teams (Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science, Velocity, etc.) and have day-to-day operational oversight related to content investment. She will also support Newell in the overall strategic planning and analysis around procuring and usage of shared content within the Discovery Networks International network portfolio.

“Darcy is perfectly poised to be a strategic and creative partner for our regional programming executives imbedded in-market and our US colleagues,” noted Newell. “Of course, her deep knowledge of the Velocity brand will rev the engines of the global Turbo brand even further.”

Tomlin, a 15-year Discovery Communications veteran, most recently served as senior director of programming with US brand Velocity. In this role, she was responsible for developing the strategic scheduling of the day-to-day programming, stunts, specials and Upfront planning for the automotive network, which is available in 63 million US households. Tomlin returns to Discovery’s international business where she previously held a programming and operational role and helped launch the TLC brand around the world. She also had a programming position in the Latin America division in Miami, Florida, working on the regional Discovery Channel and Animal Planet brands, as well as the Home & Health and Travel & Living brands. Tomlin is a graduate of American University’s School of Communication in Washington, D.C.
