HKTVE Introduces ViuTV Cantonese FTA Channel
HONG KONG – HK Television Entertainment Company Limited (HKTVE) today unveiled the name and logo of its new free TV service, ViuTV. ViuTV’s Cantonese digital channel will be designated channel 99.
Explaining the fundamental concepts of ViuTV, Mr. Lofai Lo, General Manager of HKTVE, said, “The letter “V” stands for “View” and “Video” while “i” and “u” refer to “me” and “you” symbolizing people as the core of the Hong Kong-based free TV service ViuTV. ViuTV will produce a series of “factual entertainment” programs which will be not only full of talking points but also extremely entertaining and compelling.” For example, “Travel with rivals” is a program in which artistes and celebrities travel in pairs and express their innermost feelings throughout the journey. More details of ViuTV’s factual entertainment programs will be announced in due course.
ViuTV is committed to driving the continuous development and sustainability of Hong Kong’s TV industry. Backed by a creative and professional production team, ViuTV aims to establish itself as an open platform for creative individuals and teams from Hong Kong and elsewhere around the world who are interested in producing brand new programming content with ViuTV through different forms of cooperation, whether they are artistes or production members, veterans or novices. ViuTV also welcomes talents from different backgrounds and sectors, and encourages different genres and production parameters.
Apart from exploring program formats from around the world, ViuTV intends to take its original program formats to the world. For example, its program format “Agora” has successfully been distributed to Japan. ViuTV will continue to produce more high-quality programs with a view to expanding the footprint of local creations beyond Hong Kong.
To cater to the needs of different viewers, ViuTV will not only offer locally produced factual entertainment, news and financial content, but also actively identify international sports, internationally popular dramas and variety shows, information and cultural programs, etc. to make a comprehensive and quality channel for Hong Kong people.
A soft launch of ViuTV is scheduled for the end of March next year and the public broadcast of channel 99 via frequency spectrum is expected in the following month.
