HBO & Japan’s Star Channel Announce Output Deal
Tokyo, Japan - Star Channel, Inc. announced that they have agreed to a new exclusive television content deal with HBO. The channel will be expanding its current premium movie services to become cinema lovers' total must-have premium entertainment services with both Hollywood blockbuster movies and high-profile TV series.
With the newly agreed output deal with HBO for Japan, the channel will be the exclusive television home of HBO titles, including the new season of the global phenomenon Game of Thrones.
In October, the shareholders of Star Channel, Tohokushinsya Film Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan) Inc., assigned new representative directors (Keiichi Kosaka, ex representative director of Family Theater owned by TFC, as representative director and COO, and Hiroko Ozawa, former GM of AXN Japan, owned by Sony Pictures Television as co-representative director and CMO) to strengthen programming and marketing.
"At the re-branded Star Channel, we are committed to providing more than just content, but to offering value added services with a focus on originality and exclusivity, creating a unique community for cinema fans,” said Keiichi Kosaka.
Star Channel, Inc. operates three channels on BS10, whose non-scramble transmission is received by 37 million households, and will offer OTT and 4K services in the future in the Japanese market.
