Lionsgate First To Sell TV Shows On Vimeo

Lionsgate is the launch partner for a new TV store run by on-demand video site Vimeo.

The Hollywood studio has signed a TVOD deal for the bulk of its library, including signature titles such as Orange Is The New Black, across more than 150 countries worldwide, including some major markets in Asia.

The service will officially launch October 18, going into competition with other transactional platforms such as iTunes and Google Play.

Pricing and program availability will vary, with some titles exclusive to Vimeo in certain markets.

The 12-year-old video platform, now owned by Barry Diller’s IAC, has evolved in the shadow of YouTube. 

Nonetheless, Vimeo, which relies on subscriptions and transactions for revenues offers more flexible terms than its larger rival, including a 90% share of revenue for creators and the ability to adjust pricing.

Lionsgate Becomes First Hollywood Studio To Partner With Vimeo In Launch Of Global Television Store

SANTA MONICA, Calif. and NEW YORK, Sept. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), a premier next generation global content leader, and Vimeo, home to the world's leading video creators and hundreds of millions of monthly viewers, have formed a ground-breaking partnership in which Lionsgate has become the first major Hollywood studio and exclusive launch partner to license its content to Vimeo's global television store, the two companies announced today.

The service is one of the first to deliver high-end premium scripted U.S. content to consumers in over 150 countries around the world at the same time.

Lionsgate will supply Vimeo's global store with virtually its entire catalog of television series led by the blockbuster Orange is the New Black, the Golden Globe-nominated dramedy Casual, the hit series The Royals, the iconic Emmy Award-winning drama Mad Men and other catalog titles including Weeds, Nurse Jackie, Boss, Blue Mountain State and Manhattan.  Lionsgate movie titles will be added to the Vimeo service for rental in the U.S. subsequent to launch.

The service will officially launch on October 18th at the MIPCOM 2016 Global Market in Cannes with kickoff ceremonies led by Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution Jim Packer and Vimeo's Head of Global Content Acquisitions and Distribution Sam Toles.

Lionsgate has been one of the first studios to partner with Starbreeze, Steam, Google's virtual reality Daydream initiative, Comcast's Xfinity service and other leading digital platforms to deliver premium content to its consumers.
