Amazon India Adds More Comedy Originals

Amazon continues to spend on original content in India, commissioning 14 stand-up comedy specials for its Prime Video platform.

These add to an existing commitment for 18 exclusive Indian productions across multiple genres made last month at Prime Video's local launch, marking out India as one of the company's most important global markets.

The ecommerce giant has also acquired rights to recent and upcoming movies in Hindi and other Indian languages, giving it a much deeper local catalog than video rival Netflix.

In India, Prime Video is part of Amazon’s broader Prime ecommerce service, currently available at Rs499 (US$7.8) for the first year (discounted from an Rs999 annual fee).

Concert promoter and talent management firm Only Much Louder (OML), one of Prime Video’s Indian launch partners, is working on the stand-up shows, which will be staged in multiple venues across the country.
